Relevant energy ranges for astrophysical reaction rates

چکیده

Effective energy windows (Gamow windows) of astrophysical reaction rates for (p,γ), (p,n), (p,α), (α,γ), (α,n), (α,p), (n,γ), (n,p), and (n,α) on targets with 10 ≤ Z ≤ 83 from protonto neutrondripline are calculated using theoretical cross sections. It is shown that widely used approximation formulae for the relevant energy ranges are not valid for a large number of reactions relevant to hydrostatic and explosive nucleosynthesis. The influence of the energy dependence of the averaged widths on the location of the Gamow windows is discussed and the results presented in tabular form.

Astrophysical Reaction Rates as a Challenge for Nuclear Reaction Theory

The relevant energy ranges for stellar nuclear reactions are introduced. Low-energy compound and direct reactions are discussed. Stellar modifications of the cross sections are presented. Implications for experiments are outlined.

Photon-induced Reactions in Stars and in the Laboratory: A Critical Comparison

Photon-induced reactions during the astrophysical p(or γ-) process occur at typical temperatures of 1.8 ≤ T9 ≤ 3.3. Experimental data of (γ,n), (γ,p), or (γ,α) reactions – if available in the relevant energy region – cannot be used directly to measure astrophysical (γ,n), (γ,p), or (γ,α) reaction rates because of the thermal excitation of target nuclei at these high temperatures. Usually, stati...

Direct reactions in/for astrophysics

Precise nuclear reaction rates are needed for a detailed description of the production of elements in primordial nucleosynthesis and during the hydrostatic burning of stars to constrain the astrophysical models. The relevant reactions are extremely difficult to measure directly in the laboratory at the small astrophysical energies. In recent years direct reactions methods have been developed an...

Complete inclusion of parity-dependent level densities in the statistical description of astrophysical reaction rates

Microscopic calculations show a strong parity dependence of the nuclear level density at low excitation energy of a nucleus. Previously, this dependence has either been neglected or only implemented in the initial and final channels of Hauser-Feshbach calculations. We present an indirect way to account for a full parity dependence in all steps of a reaction, including the one of the compound nu...

Gamma-Ray Emission from Novae Related to Positron Annihilation: Constraints on its Observability Posed by New Experimental Nuclear Data.

Classical novae emit gamma-ray radiation at 511 keV and below (with a cutoff at around 20-30 keV), related to positron annihilation and its Comptonization in the expanding envelope. This emission has been elusive up to now because it occurs at epochs well before the maximum in optical luminosity, but it could be detected by some sensitive instrument on board a satellite, provided that the nova ...
